BAföG Consultation
We can advise you on questions about your BAföG entitlement and help you with any difficulties with the BAföG office.
Please make sure that you have access to all the documents you have received and submitted to the BAföG office during the counselling session. Counselling is often not possible without documents.
We often provide detailed advice on:
- Correctness of the decision issued
- Change of specialisation according to § 7 para. 3 BAföG
- Extensions for the submission of the § 48 certificate (proof of performance)
- Extensions of the funding period according to § 15 para. 3 BAföG
- Applications for advance payments
- Update applications
- Appeals against BAföG rejection notices
What we do not do:
- Trial calculations (please contact the BeSt for this)
- How high your BAföG entitlement is (the BeSt can also provide information on this)
- Proper completion of the BAföG application form
- BAföG abroad
- Advice on repaying the BAföG loan to the Federal Office of Administration (the BVA can provide information here)
- Student BAföG

- Monday, May 19th
You can find our face-to-face counselling sessions in room 0043 of the AStA wing. During the respective counselling time, you will find a list at the counselling door or in the Infocafé on which you can sign in at least half an hour before the counselling starts. For the online counselling procedure, see below.
Regardless of whether you come digitally or in person, counselling is often not possible without documents. Please ALWAYS HAVE ALL DOCUMENTS READY!
*ONLINE COUNSELLING IS ONLY FOR STUDENTS OF THE UNI HAMBURG - PLEASE ALSO NOTE THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ON THE DIGITAL PROCEDURE:
1) The email inbox Liste-BAfoeG-Beratung@asta.uni-hamburg.de will be activated for the duration of the counselling window specified for a particular counselling session (see above: Counselling times).
2) You can send an e-mail to this e-mail address WITHIN the specified counselling time and will then receive an automatic reply with the Zoom link for the respective counselling session. All emails received outside a specific counselling time will remain unanswered.
3) Although the counselling time slots are repeated weekly, a NEW Zoom link is created for each counselling session. This means: You can only use the link you receive to obtain a counselling slot in a specific counselling session on a specific day within the time slot specified for that counselling session.
4) In order to take part in this counselling session, you must first activate the link sent to you. You will then always end up in the waiting room of the counselling session currently taking place. As soon as a counselling slot is free, the counsellors will let you in.
5) THE COUNSELLORS CAN ONLY CONSIDER YOU FOR A COUNSELLING SESSION AS LONG AS YOU REMAIN IN THE WAITING ROOM OF THE COUNSELLING SESSION CURRENTLY TAKING PLACE!
6) Unfortunately, this procedure does not allow us to inform you about the place you have been allocated on the list or the approximate waiting time remaining.
7) If you can no longer be advised within the time window of a particular counselling session, you unfortunately have no choice but to try again within the time window of one of the next counselling sessions using the procedure described here.
