Semester fee loans
As in previous years, the General Student Committee of the University of Hamburg will also grant an interest-free loan for the pro-rata payment of the semester fee to students in financial hardship in the summer semester 2025. There is no entitlement to the loan.
The loan amounts to €243.00. Applications for the loan are open until March 7, 2025
Who can apply for a loan?
All students of the University of Hamburg who are demonstrably in financial distress and cannot afford to pay the semester fee "in one fell swoop." The loan is intended to ensure access to education and study for all students and to avoid ex-matriculation due to financial distress alone.
How to apply for a loan?
Students intersted in the granting of lans please fill out the corresponding application form completely::
Important: The application must be sent as a copy in the original and any other documents or delivered to the post office. A digital copy of the application cannot be accepted.
Afterwards, the original signed contract must be sent to the following address:

After examination and acceptance of the application, a signed copy will be sent by e-mail to the person making the request.
The full semester fee will be paid by us directly to the University of Hamburg and you will receive your semester documents by post.
Should there be any ambiguities during the application process, consultation hours may be offered by prior arrangement
What documents are required to apply?
Five things are needed to make a loan:
- Original of the loan agreement (a digital copy and digital signatures cannot be accepted)
- Copy of identity card Passport (front and back)
- Copy of the semester certificate
- Copy of the current account statements of your own current accounts with proof of account movements within a time frame of at least 30 days.
Note: Only proof of the current account balance (balance) is not sufficient.

Important: The loan can only be approved once the deposit has been received by us.
Cash deposits are only possible after consultation with the Finance Department in justified individual cases.
How does repayment of the loan work?
The repayment of the loan is made in four installments.
The loan granted by AStA is interest-free. The instalments will be paid by direct debit and on the following dates:

Early repayment of the total amount or outstanding balance is possible. If the student defaults on the repayment of an instalment, the entire balance becomes due immediately, without the need for extraordinary notice of termination by the AStA. The student is responsible for any fees incurred as a result of the student's account not being covered.
