The cityNature has many facets: private and neighborhood gardens, green roofs and facades, the park around the corner with its birds, foxes and dogs.
The focus of this seminar is urban gardening. In cooperation with the ASTA of the University of Hamburg, the Green Office of the University of Hamburg and BEAT!, the university's student health management, the activities around the student urban gardening area "Wurzelwerk" on campus will be accompanied.
This event is open to all students of the University of Hamburg who would like to deal theoretically and/or practically with Urban Gardening and subsequent questions and topics.
The (theoretical) focus of the joint work takes place in coordination with the seminar group. It would be conceivable, for example, to draw on feminist, epistemology, natural science, aesthetic, socio-political and economic perspectives on urban nature in general and urban gardening in particular. Thus, a reflection of the concept of nature can help us to deduce the current relation of nature in its social complexity and to think about future ways of dealing with nature: What is the overall social significance of nature in cities? Who is allowed to use it? And how? What does this mean for the practical work of urban gardening?
In a part of the seminar time we will work on different theoretical texts, possibly with field trips, on which we can then develop concrete joint ideas and projects for the further development of and work in the root work and the concept of the natural garden. Each week we will spend a part of the workshop time doing practical work in the care and design of the root work.
The aim is to offer this seminar on an ongoing basis in order to create a viable and participatory structure for urban gardening on campus.
The seminar is aimed at all students of the University of Hamburg whose studies include a "Studium Generale" or, in the case of teaching students in the B. Ed., a "Freie Studienpartie." Due to the high demand in WiSe, we are offering two parallel seminars this time to give more students the opportunity to participate.
