Cancel everything: 14 February, 1 pm, Rathausmarkt! The AStA joins the call for a climate strike by Fridays for Future! After months of the former ‘Progress Coalition’ only working on itself and closing its eyes to political reality, it's now time to say: The traffic light is history! Now that Lindner has announced his intention to abolish the German climate targets, nobody is of course sad that Scholz is throwing the FDP out of government. However, it is clear that there is no time for illusions - not everything will simply get better now.
Cancel everything: 14. February, 1 pm, Rathausmarkt!
After months of the former ‘Progressive Coalition’ just working on itself and closing its eyes to political reality, it's time to say goodbye: The traffic light is history! Now that Lindner has announced his intention to abolish the German climate targets, nobody is of course sad that Scholz is throwing the FDP out of government. However, it is clear that there is no time for illusions - not everything will simply get better now.
Spain is under water, the world is heading for 3.1 degrees of global warming, a fascist becomes president of the USA and all this just a few days before the World Climate Conference in Baku - the world's pain could not be greater.
Not only has the climate crisis hardly played a role in recent months, but even worse, the public debate has centred almost exclusively on right-wing issues. If we continue to allow them to take centre stage, we are threatened with election results similar to those in Brandenburg, Saxony and Thuringia in the Bundestag elections. An early general election means an early decision about our future. There is a lot at stake: We can win - but we can also lose everything.
That's why it's clear now: we need to talk about what really matters. For a just, peaceful world, we need to contain the climate crisis. To do this, we need parties that take climate protection seriously - regardless of whether it's an election or the next heatwave. And for that we need serious talks about the climate.
Let's take to the streets, reclaim the debate and fight together for a future worth living. That's why we're calling for a nationwide climate strike before the election - on Friday, 14 February 2025 everywhere in Germany!
