Stop the cuts! Full funding for the university!
The members of the University of Hamburg are dedicated to research, teaching, student life, and knowledge transfer—all in the service of humane, democratic, social, and sustainable development. All of this is increasingly threatened by the university’s chronic underfunding. Furthermore, the university is facing the most severe financial cuts in decades.
This cannot go on: An immediate change of course is necessary!
In January, the Academic Senate (AS) determined that, under the current financial conditions, no meaningful, future-oriented planning for the university’s development is possible. Furthermore, it has encouraged the university community to develop proposals on how the summer semester can be turned into months of public debate (and, if necessary, protest) to demand fundamental improvements to the conditions for education and science, for student life, teaching, and research. Because: Science needs adequate funding with planning security.
The Working Group on Full Funding is calling for a demonstration on June 11 at 2 p.m. under the slogan “Knowledge Creates the Future!” to demand full funding for Hamburg’s universities.
In this context, the cross-member-group general assembly will provide critical information on the current state of the university’s financial situation and the budget deliberations.
In addition, there will be an opportunity to discuss the next steps in the fight for adequate funding for the university and Hamburg’s higher education institutions as a whole.

- Welcome: Why we are fighting for adequate funding now (TVPR & WIPR)
- Brief introduction from the Full Funding Working Group: The current state of the debate
- Discussion: How do we fight from within the university against the cuts and for full funding?
- Resolutions + Agreements: Support for the demonstration, mobilization activities, and other matters
