Social Movement
AStA can act as an independent socio-political actor in social struggles - but also actively support existing social movements. In recent years, we have been able to support a large number of anti-fascist, anti-racist and climate policy organisations. This organically grown cooperation now finds a formal home in the Department for Social Movement in order to anchor social change institutionally and culturally at the university. The Department for Social Movement and Anti-Discrimination is divided into the Coordination Centres for Anti-Discrimination, Climate Activism and Anti-Fascism.
Coordination centre for climate activism:
The effects of the climate crisis are already being felt and are also exacerbating existing global injustices. Nevertheless, there is reason for hope: through collective efforts, we still have the opportunity to overcome the crisis. For this reason, more and more students are getting involved in groups and social movements that campaign for climate justice.
Are you already committed to climate justice?
We give you a platform to organise events or demonstrations. Get in touch with us so that we can support you with infrastructure, organisation or information. We are also in contact with many groups, initiatives and alliances and can help you network with each other.
Do you want to become active in a climate-friendly way?
Then we will be happy to give you an overview of the various climate justice movements and network you there too. We can make it easier for you to get involved or help you set up your own initiative.
Are you active beyond climate and anti-fascism?
Talk to us about where you would like to get involved and what topics you are interested in. At the AStA, we work together with various initiatives, movements, groups, alliances, free spaces and collectives and are sure to find the right one for you.
The Coordination Centre for Anti-Fascism is dedicated to combating the social shift to the right in the city and at the university. Our work primarily relates to right-wing activities at the University of Hamburg: We are there for you if you have problems with right-wing professors, fellow students and other members of the university, or if you have noticed right-wing graffiti and stickers on your faculty, and we will work together to find a solution. However, our work does not end with the boundaries of the campus: for a sustainable fight against the right, a wide range of social initiatives are essential for us, which is why we continue to be involved in broad anti-fascist alliances.
