Sustainability and ecology
The issue of sustainability is more important than ever because it is very clear that the climate crisis is not waiting! Political, economic and academic actors must acknowledge their responsibility and set clear goals for real sustainability.
Therefore, a central task of the Department of Sustainability and Ecology of the AStA of University of Hamburg is to continuously engage in exchange with various stakeholders of the university and to initiate projects to become a climate-neutral and ecologically sustainable university in all areas.
Our projects:
We are part of the organizing team of the largest lecture series on the climate crisis in Hamburg, with over 3,000 registrations per semester, and are thus continuously committed to transdisciplinary climate education. The lecture is now offered at the UHH (University of Hamburg), the HAW (Hamburg University of Applied Science), the TUHH (Hamburg University of Technology), the HCU (Hafencity University) as well as the HfMT(University of Music and Theatre) and is rewarded with credit points.
In addition, we demand an increase of vegetarian and vegan dish-options in the refectories by developing strategies and exerting pressure on responsible parties. Also we want ecologically sustainable meals to be subsidized so that they become much more affordable. To this end, we are part of the nationwide networking project "Mensarevolution".
In addition, we are planning to introduce a seminar on the topic of biodiversity. In this course, students will learn both theoretically and practically how plants are grown, and cared for best and how the usage demands of diverse social groups on different green spaces can be reconciled. In order to apply what they have learned in practice, we have the area of the "Wurzelwerk" at our disposal.
Furthermore, we are working on the provision of a platform on which thesis topics related to sustainability are collected and available for application.
In addition, we are continuously renegotiating the semester ticket and advocating for a 9 Euro ticket at the federal level.
